Help! I am retiring, and there’s no turning back!
In a few months; Friday, 19 Sep 08; to be exact, I will be walking away from my traditional sphere of employment to self-employment; with no “golden parachute,” no hefty 401k “hedge fund;” nor any “stocks and/or bonds,” or substantial “savings” nest egg to cushion my transition.
Just a minimal retirement stipend {23% of my current monthly gross pay} and a social security check {worth about 42% of my current monthly gross pay} and a sound-creative intellect; coupled with a portfolio of marketing opportunities that will make my latter financial status better than my former.
Realizing there are many other so-called “Baby Boomers” in the midst; facing the same, or worse retirement circumstances, or choices; I wanted to offer this chronicle of my sojourn as a platform for other like minded ’senior’ “achievers” to share their challenges, and discovered solutions, and successes.
In my mind’s eye, I always see the glass of reality as half full, rather than half empty. So, you might say I’m the “eternal optimist.”
My plan is to use this diary/blog as a journal of my count down to ‘take off’ to exciting new heights of financial freedom; and to carry you along for the ride.
In a recent online edition of MSN’s Retirement Planner the headline read: “Bleak retirements for 150 million people: Retirement worries go from bad to worse!”
