With a 14-day temporarily debilitating infirmity, coupled with the death of my surrogate, father, mentor; my September 19 retirement day observance came and went; with the untraditional pineapple upside-down cake ceremony, and traditional (IAM union) wristwatch piece, cards and gifts and well wishes.
Afterward I cleared my locker, and my mailbox, and made a bee line for the airport; to reach Atlanta, Ga in time for the wake, and the weekend funeral that was to follow.
There’s nothing more sobering, when it comes to contemplating the vicissitudes of life, than to pause and reflect upon another exemplary life well lived. In the end, it was a pause that refreshed and helped to reset my focus on the importance of strengthening “the things (ie. family, friendships, and personal values) that remain.”
So, while my retirement “rite of passage” turned out to be a little “weak, thru the flesh;” I find that my spirit man is yet being “renewed daily.”
Financial, political, and military storms are brewing; such that “wars and rumors of wars,” the potential changing of the guard ( in Washington, DC), and the death tremors being manifested on Wall Street, and the rippling effect in the world’s financial markets threaten our ability to earn a living, own a home, live securely, receive a pension; including Social Security … or even “buy and sell” freely. (sound vaguely familiar?)
Question is Where will you cast your life’s anchor when the storms of life are raging?
