The Power of One (1+)

Waking from a refreshing Friday evening  nap, I heard these words resonating in my spirit; concerning “The Power of One (1+).”

The Spirit (of God) spoke into my spirit: “LITTLE IS MUCH, WHEN GOD IS IN IT. LABOR NOT FOR WEALTH OR FAME. THERE IS A CROWN (of life-eternal, of rejoicing-ever more) AND YOU CAN WIN IT; IF YOU GO IN JESUS’ NAME”

It is the lyrical chorus of a contemporary Christian song of worship, that speaks to the caption written in the book of the prophets; that says: “Do not despise (the day of) small beginnings.” [Zech 4:10/TLB]

My dear friends, I submit to you that we, as a community of one’s (1+’s), are blind to the heights and depths that could be reached if we could “GO DEEP TO REAP” (a monetizing term that I’ve become recently familiar with) THROUGH “THE POWER OF ONE (1+).”

In the economy of (the kingdom of) God there is a law of “sowing & reaping,” that says: “For if you give you will get! Your gift will return to you in full overflowing measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more. Whatever measure you use to give –will be used to measure what is given back to you” [Luke 6:38/TLB]

After all, you and I have been diligently plying our craft, in a sincere effort, to establish a “brand;” and “attract” a faithful Following (all U Tweeter’s)

I say unto you “GIVE” this wisdom away …and “REAP,” through “The Power of One (1+).”

Consider these numbers:   1+2+3 …up to 30-days is a community of 465 souls …1,830 souls in 60-days (2 mos) …4,095 souls in 90-days (3 mos) …7,260 souls in 120-days (4 mos) …11,325 souls in 150-days (5 mos) …and 16,290 souls in 180-days (6 mos). Are you beginning to get the bigger picture?

I must admit it is a picture that provokes me to BECOME A GIVER. “It is more blessed to give, than to receive” [Acts 20:35]

Years ago, I once heard my (then) pastor say (and I paraphrase) “If you find yourself in a place (in your life) of  ‘NOT ENOUGH,’ …GIVE YOUR WAY OUT!”

Which makes me all the more excited about “Now I lay me down to sleep” because, who is to say what the Spirit of the Lord might speak further into my spirit; for my profit?

It is written: “Beloved, I WISH, above all things, THAT (YOU) (MAY) PROSPER, and be in health; even as (your) soul prospers” [3 Jn 2]

Pass this on to one other soul (ONE DAY AT A TIME), on life’s winding road; and MAY EACH ONE (1+) REACH ONE (1+) AND PROSPER.

A “Live” Update, Thru The Options Univ Looking Glass

 

This may appear odd at the moment… but when you receive our
most recent edition of the Options Specialist newsletter shortly
it should all make sense!

As I’m writing this, it is the morning of April 2nd… and as
you will soon read, we have had a hypothetical options position
on in IBM since late last week.

We were able to initiate a purchase of the IBM April – May 100
Calendar spread for a $1.80 debit with IBM below $95.00 at the
time.  It’s only been about 4 trading days since then, but
fortunately IBM has rebounded in our favor as we hoped (based on
our research) and the spread is now worth $2.30 in live trading.

That means we’re up $0.50 on our current 10 lot spread… or in
cash terms, $500.00 on our $1800.00 of investment/risk.

With the spread very close to its optimal price level, ($100),
we are going to close out all but a 1 lot of the long May 100
calls that we have in IBM at this time.

Thus, we bought back our short 10 lot of April 100 calls for
$3.10 and sold our 9 May 100 calls for $5.40 per contract.
Converting these transactions to a cash basis ($3100 debit +
$4860 credit = $1760 net credit).

Please recall that we had an $1800 debit (as a result of
initiating the spread), so we still have a total of $40 of our
original capital at risk ($1800 debit- $1760 credit = $40) even
though our one remaining long May 100 call is $5.40 bid at the
moment.

This means that we still have $540 of total risk at the moment,
but only $40 of it is our original capital.

Put another way, we are essentially playing with the house’s
money at the moment!

That’s why we’re leaving this one lot on… because it is
basically a f.r.e.e. call.

IBM and the markets could be overbought at the moment, and we
could witness the “sell on news” trade very shortly.  The news
of course is the much anticipated (telegraphed!) mark-to-market
accounting changes that have been announced.

We can’t know for sure, but this could turn out to be a “blow
off” rally short-term top, given how well-broadcast this
information was over the past few weeks.

However, the shorts could really be put to the test for at least
a few more days as well. We will soon see if this rally has
staying power… but will do so with only a one lot of risk on!

$100.00 is the optimal level for the calendar spread that we had
on, so it wasn’t hard to close out this position. But when you
read our IBM forecast, you’ll see why we left on the one lot in
May.

We could have shut this down completely of course, and taken a
respectable profit for having it on for just 4 days. But despite
the risk in the market, we think IBM should head significantly
higher… and now we’re playing with the market’s money, albeit
in a minimal way.

Had we closed it out completely, it would have resulted in a
profit of $5400 – $3100 = $2300 credit – the $1800 original
debit and thus $500 on an $1800 outlay or a 27.78% profit in
about 4 or 5 days.

But there’s a lot of time left for our May 100 call, and with
IBM earnings in the near future we think there’s a fair chance
we can use the market’s money to make even bigger gains.

After all… we are essentially holding a F.R.E.E. call!

We will provide another update when the time comes, and will
cover more of the “ins and outs” of this type of IBM position we
initially discussed in our recent Practical Application class.

About a 16.4% return on our average trade.  Let’s hope that the
good times continue to roll in this rough market!

All our positions were based on 10 lot spreads, and some were
held over 2 consecutive months while others only one.  If we
based our returns off of the time in the market and annualized
them they would be significantly higher.

NOTE: As always these and all other positions from our “Through
the Looking Glass” column and our Practical Application class
are entirely hypothetical.  These are paper trades that we
follow in an attempt to “learn by doing.”  Paper trades, but in
real markets.
